"Our garden is set in the 1950s seaside and will see deckchairs and a picnic, as well as a rock pool and wave machine," said Mr Woolcott.
This statement was in todays gazette in referance to bags of sand being stolen (sorry, lent) from Frintons beach for a big garden event in London.
Sorry, but i fell about laughing at the 1950`s seaside bit..is it still like that now.
was the rock pool a subliminal referance to the Walings (in between a rock and a hard place ? )
and last but not least, the waves being made by a certain Town Mayor of his half million £ toilet block....
The good news is the £150 fee being given to Anglia in bloom....lol..
money always did go to money..... ...again....

I found the article a little worrying.
Some quotes.
"About 20 sacks of sand will be transported to London to create a 20sq m beach.
"We chose Frinton because I know district councillor Giles Watling through a mutual friend..................."
"Mr Watling said most beaches are owned by the Crown Estate but that Tendring Council leases Frinton beach, so permission had to be granted by both parties before the sand could be taken."
Now I don't know any district councillors, my mother was always particular about who I had as friends, but if I arrive on the seafront with twenty empty sacks I'm sure my request for sand would be welcomed and Mr Watling would probably help me fill them.
My favourite line in the piece however is this little gem. "This is a wonderful opportunity for Tendring, the district council and Frinton in particular," he said.
People of Frinton rejoice. Our time has come. This is obviously the moment Frinton has been waiting for since Adam, Frinton's oldest resident by some three years, was a boy,. We must seize the opportunity with both hands, because now that Frinton sand has finally been used in a garden display we will be able to .....er ....we can .....um....Well it's a wonderful opportunity anyway. And we've got gates you know.
Somebody elected these people.
A word to the wise. If you collect sand at 3 am. you don't need permission but watch out for the geezer behind the urine-soaked bush with night-vision binoculars and a sniper rifle. _________________ It's only kinky the first time you do it. |

Oh Vicar, i`ll hold you responcable for the damage caused to my not so small frame i might have damaged, in falling of my chair laughing so much.
A "small" point though, can you enlighten us on how you know who holds his with both hands, and more to the point, exactly what does he sieze......
To me the thought of clandestine sand pinching at night fills not only my sacks, but me with horror..
images of small sun dried dark brown pointy ended sausage like smelly things being secreted into bags for onward transport under securicar policing into central London avoiding not only the criminal daily congestion charge, but the insane daily amount being asked and taken by modern day Dick Turpins via its Low Emission Charging scheme..
So, costs......free sand and dog doo doo`s.
Securicart it.
£8 city congestion charge.
£200 Low Emission Zone charge.
Fuel for a 2 way trip from Frinton to central London..(several times)
Wages for said van driver.
Tea and "sandwiches" hopefully not frintons doggy dirt type...
Yep, it sounds like the cheapest option was used for the event..
Now, if it was me or you, i`m sure central London has a B&Q like the rest of us who live in the real world.
Inside B&Q`s they sell ready filled bags of sand..even better than Frintons, as its graded, sieved and poo free....
Yep, it still sounds like the way they do things in Frinton....ha..ha..ha..
Someone once said,
There is no such thing as BAD publicity.......Oh how wrong you can get Frinton.
In one clean stroke, you have proved to the whole country just how inefficient in expediture of other peoples money you are, or connected with....
Hmmm, sounds like a loo block story again....lol. _________________ In truth we seek,In truth we learn,In Tendering,We get neither.. |

| I wonder, which of the other beaches under TDC's care do they also lease from the Crown Estate? |

Well amenity, funny you should ask this question.
So i belive, we in Jaywick have what is liked to be known as a Private beach that is adjacent to Brooklands and runs from Lion point to the Martello Tower.
Just around the corner we have yet another beach which is infact a private, but public accessable and drivable beach (for a fee) beach which borders Hutleys Holiday Park.
Small point about this beach is it has suffered terrible sea erosion in the past, has been recharged by way of 1,000`s of tons of associated building rubble and whatnot, but even that in one fell swoop in a storm was to suffer even more errosion.
The Brooklands Beach has the most soft sand that gets wind blown often.
The Hutleys beach is in the main pebble, and sticky mud further along.
At this point further along, i have photos of our family having a blazing hot summer day beach bar-b-q amid various ex army concrete slabs from time gone by buildings, sandy roads, tall rough grasses areas, and lots of room for all to drive, park, party or whatever..
All now long gone except for the old photos of 25 years ago... _________________ In truth we seek,In truth we learn,In Tendering,We get neither.. |
