600 extra bobbies will not do what people want in my opinion. Nor would any trifling with the nubers of coppers.
Change the law so people under 25 cannot buy a drink or put up the price of booz to Swedish levels (12 pounds a pint).
Peace will reign. |

Sorry amenity. I've tried desperately to resist this but the flesh is weak.
i think that our police should be able to patrol without any fear of having their nubers interfered with.
People today have no respect for the Law. Where will it end?

Sorry amenity I was suggesting that it was me who would look silly.
I meant say that any speech and grammar nazi like me has to be 110% accurate in their writing if they set themselves up to point out other peoples typos etc. I got ripped to shreds on one board where I typed anad instead of and. _________________ It's only kinky the first time you do it. |

Don't mean to be nasty Vicar but mathematically 100% is the maximum you can achieve. |

I beg to differ amenity,
OK, you are right, but also wrong..
In my dark old days of Aerospace manufactoring, all CNC machining programmes were made to run at 100%, this was controllable by the operator via the control consul.
Various things made the use of this "speed" control a necessity during the machining process, sometimes as things went a bit "not quiet right" you had to reduce the speed.
As Rolls Royce wanted a 10% year on year price reduction, all CNC programmes were either upped, or the operator was asked to run the machine at over 100% up to a max of 120 / 130 % higher speed in both metal cutting speed, and axial movement of the machine itself, taking the workpiece with it..
So, a common used phrase in our production shop, that encapsulated just how quick we can / could go was.
I`im running it at 120% or faster, in programme, and keeping an eye on it.....
(we often lied to the day shift too)............lol...
PS, just remembered that one bright spark changed his over ride knob with another, but was able to mount it so that zero was reading 30%, 100% was 130% and the walkthrough by management noticed it was an idicated 130% on the control panel, but on screen it was showing true speed, so a clever piece of stuck on info covered the true read out performance speed indicator.....phew..that was lots of info.

Going back to ivans original point, the press, if they don't keep it even will not be taken seriously.
However looking back at press reports as long ago as the fifties yobs were always being reported for their wrong doings. Sins of the fathers, what you say Vicar? |

The fifties was where I spent the first part of my fairly normal childhood. We lived in NW London and got up to mischief without ever once damaging anyone's property or taking anything that wasn't ours.
The reason might be that we were angels, but is more likely to be that everyone in the street , and the next street, and the next street, knew your mum and dad and if you were seen misbehaving they'd know all about it before you got home.
Also there was a good chance that a copper would suddenly and silently walk or cycle round the corner at any moment. Nowadays the chances of a policeman being at any given place at any given time are quite remote. They often don't even come for days when you phone and ask them nicely.
Until the fear of getting caught and then dealt with unpleasantly (as opposed to modern "pretend" punishments) is a real fear then we will have to live with the present situation.
More police walking around the area could only be an improvement. Also if they were encouraged to travel on their own rather than in pairs we would have a police presence in twice as many places.
In the meantime perhaps the most valuable contribution they could make to our society would be achieved if we issue each couple with a pair of garden shears and politely ask them to keep the grassy area around their parked cars neatly trimmed _________________ It's only kinky the first time you do it. |

Another point, separate the sexes, this mixing is not good for concentration, let them mix only on special days.
I mean't at school of course.

Tonight we never have seen so much police presence in Jaywick.
We have both specials and pcso`s, backed up by pc`s.
They are walking in pairs, and being driven in huge riot vans.
We have, but not seen tonight, bicycle pc`s who silently go about both during the day, and at night.
Even i was "detained" and asked to prove my identity (which i could not) by 2 out of town Colchester bobbies.
Tomorrow we have our community clean up day, and all day our 3 "man" community warden team have been collecting rubbish and taking it to central collection points.
Residents have also been taking stuff to collection points.
I was taking stuff to a collection point when up walked these 2 new face bobbies and asked just what i was doing...
during the banter i was asked who i was, can i prove who i was, and whose car was i driving..(it was my wifes)
the details were then run through the central computer to reveal i was not on the insurance cover, only my wife and my son...ooops.....lol
as it happens, i am covered to drive by way of having my own car (or 2 ) being registered to me and insured by me, for me, and to drive other vehicles, if insured, with the owners permission..
OK, the point i`m making is, the police are out there, and out in force as and when needed in any one district....
But tonights came from Colchester, so where were ours ?.
I`m not knocking it, as we have had some "trouble" during the past week or so,
but for out of town bobbies to arrive fresh faced into the eve of a big community clean up day, and not know anything about it, is not really good pr is it...
The good news is that my being "detained" gave all concerned the important message that its not always seeing streets filled up with rubbish, we are on a mission............
So were the bobbies........thanks from us in Jaywick ........ _________________ In truth we seek,In truth we learn,In Tendering,We get neither.. |

Oh Amenity ,I thought for a moment someone ,at last ,was going to remove the Grumpy Old Man in my life.(Hope he never reads this ).
What was going on then Ivan ?,thought it was a bit quiet up my end of town ,we usually have the nice men in blue haring up and down here with all lights blazing.Last night it was silent .
I once got a swift boot up the rear end by the local Bobby ,taught me a lesson I'll never forget ,in other words ,don't think you can hide from a policeman under a upturned boat on Jaywick beach .He told us he would give us a 5 minute head start and if we got home before he got there on his bike ,then he would not tell our parents what we had been up to .Have you ever seen a group of kids running at speed record from Jaywick Beach to Coopers Lane in under 5 minutes ? ,Well ,you would have that day. .Mind you ,we were covered in mud from the sand pits and freshly ploughed fields. So we got a clump round the earhole for getting so dirty anyhow.
Half the problem with 'out of control 'kids is that they have no consequences to suffer if they are caught doing anything they shouldn't be .
We are far too soft on them ,lock them in their rooms and you have a Social Worker telling you that it's an infringement of their 'uman rights ,slap them and it's child cruelty , punish them in other ways and you will have broken some child welfare riules .
What we need is someone to finally stand up and sort this sorry mess out.Let parents know what is acceptable punishment and let us deal with them.Apart from taking away the little darlings computer or games console ,what else can we do.
I have however ,told my 12 year old that if he ever gets arrested ,we will be leaving him in the cells until such a time we feel the Police have had enough of looking at him, then I'll personally ask for the arresting officer and give the lad a good clout in front of said officer ,so he can have the satisfaction of actually seeing someone properly punished.Bet I'd get arrested for assault ,but hey ho ,it'll be worth the £50 fine. |
