A band of parents upset at the closure of a popular pre-school have decided to set up on their own.
The mums and dads were furious when Little Pals at the Brooklands Resource Centre in Jaywick closed in January due to financial constraints.
About 700 people signed an unsuccessful petition to keep it open.
Since then, their children have had to go on a mini-bus to a sister pre-school at Bishops Park College.
Now, a group has formed a committee to set up JJs - the Jaywick Jems - for their little ones.
Chairman, Gary Player, of Gorse Way, explained that a public meeting will be held on May 1 to give parents more information.
"We're just putting the feelers out at the moment," said the 42-year-old, who is dad to Mitchell, three, and Lacey, 21 months.
"Hopefully the pre-school will be up and running in January - until then, we'll be having play and stay sessions and a crèche two or three times a week.
"We're getting advice on the legal side, and will be registering as a charity soon."
Fundraising is currently taking place for the new pre-school, with a raffle and auction to take place during the public meeting.
The committee is also in the process of setting up a website to give parents more information about developments as they happen.
