|
|
I have learn't today that ECC are cutting certain items from the library service, daily newspapers such as Lloyds List have been deleted "to save Money."
Letters of complaint for the cuts are needed (apparently forms are provided within the library for this purpose).
Just as in other spheres vast sums have been spent on capital goods and the day to day running items axed.
Similar method used at the new Harwich clinic, loads money for the building and staff difficult to fund and pay.

Over the last few days having time to think about this problem of reduced access at our library at Dovercourt a few points have come to mind, that in the spirit of helpfulness Essex County Council might respond to. After all we all wish them well in their attempt to provide an improved service.
1. Does Lloyds List provide cheap subscriptions for council libraries?
2. How much extra would it cost ECC to purchase the additional copy for our Harwich library since they are continuing to provide the service at Colchester library?
3. Why did ECC elect to provide the service to Colchester and not to Harwich?
4. As we are unquestionably the more major port-orientated area and at present ECC indicate they can only provide one copy, surely we should get that copy here in Harwich and it can be sent to Colchester afterwards?
5. Has ECC explored the possibility of adopting the alternative online subscription for this service?
6. How many other libraries does ECC provide with Lloyds List?
7. How much does ECC save by making this cut?
8. If savings were made on what services would they be spent at Dovercourt?
Karl Dugiud of The Standard, are you concerned that your paper might be the next victim of library cutbacks? Has your paper been approached by ECC in this regard? And, Karl would you consider running a campaign in your paper to persuade ECC to reinstate this service? |

| Wasnt it in the paper that the Lloyds list is now safe? I could have been imagining it, but if I'm not I wonder what prompted the powers that be to change their minds. |

| I'm sure it was this weeks standard. I cant find it though thats why I'm not 100% sure. There was definitely something in there about the list as it explained what it was. |

Due to demand of its residents, the nice little library at Golf green is now open.
Its one of them things that was missed when it was taken to Bishops Park, so the local residents restocked the hall at Golf Green for the bennefit of the many locals that missed it so much...

Nice to know that the power of residents that care about their community will be a force to be reconed with...........................

Today is a sad day for me Lloyds List the foremost marine news organ which kindly gave me a trial of it's online services 6 months ago has remembered to switch of my free trial.
But all this is leading to a little known service that Essex County library run online periodicals newspapers and magazines.
All there for the asking just need a library card number.
Sadly they do not provide Lloyds List an ommission in this area I believe. |
