I read in the gazette of the intrest in starting a Forum for the residents of Town Center Clacton, Pier Ward being linked to Jaywick as being the 3rd worst deprived area in the UK.
Being such, Pier Ward has recieved much funding over the last 2 years.
This starting of a "community" forum must be looked upon with much caution if the Jaywick forum is to be used as an example.
In Jaywicks Forum`s beginings, it was open to all,
but over the years, it was "honed down" untill only those with certain criteria were invited to join.
This led to it being alienated to the very community it supposedly served.
If the man, or woman, on the street has no voice in the Forum for its community, then surely that Forum is being run as a non democratic entity.
You cannot say its the peoples choice of any subject, if the people have no choice in that subject.
In Jaywicks past, who from the community actually elected the "leaders" of its Forum, who canvassed its residents as to who would lead, and at what time were the residents asked to vote ?
These ideals that are in Pier Wards thoughts must never again be let followed what went wrong in Jaywick.
The Rt. Hon Hazel Blares white paper of Community Empowerment sets out to make communities a level playing field, not a single track to an "elietist" club where the common man has no say.
Speaking as a common man, i can say this without fear of retribution, for i have nothing to lose but my communities wellbeing, but one that i care for......

I can assure you that the Forum is open to all residents of the Ward and the officers were democratically chosen from those residents who turned up at the meetings. There are no closed sessions. People who run businesses in the Ward are also welcome to attend the meetings. Most of the money allocated to the Ward was spent on projects for the Town Centre, which is the focal centre for the whole of the Clacton area, and this is not where the majority of the Ward's residents live. The aim of the Forum is to make Pier Ward a more pleasant and safer area in which to live and work. The next meeting is to be held at the Community Information Centre, Imperial House, Rosemary Road at 5.30pm on Wednesday next, the 4th November.
The post of mine is now exactly 1 year old, and as such, we now enjoy a democratic "open" forum within the Golf Green area of Clacton.
On our most recient forum meeting, it was proposed we infact rocipricate where applicable within Pier Wards forum, and as such, Pier wards forum members are more than welcome to visit any of our forum meetings.
As a follow on from my last post,
at our last Jaywick Forum meeting, we infact had the pleasure of 2 visiting Pier Ward Forum members into our last public open meeting held at Golf Green hall.
As a forum member, I hope both vistors enjoyed there visit with us,
and as such, I hope to visit pier wards next forum meeting.
