FLOG IT! HEADS FOR CLACTON
The popular BBC antiques show, Flog It! is heading to Clacton later this summer.
Producers have booked the Princes Theatre on September 2 for the first time - and it is one of only nine venues announced so far throughout the country to film for the next series of the programme.
Presenter Paul Martin is inviting people to come along and have their antiques and family heirlooms valued for free at a valuation day.
If people are interested in selling them, the show’s experts will consider putting them into auction and flogging them off a few weeks later. Everyone who goes along to the day will receive a valuation - even if they do not go forward to the auction.
Stephen Mayzes, Cabinet Member for Leisure at Tendring District Council (TDC) which runs the Princes Theatre, said he believed the event will create a great deal of interest.
“The Council was approached about staging Flog It! at the theatre in Clacton Town Hall and I am delighted we have been able to accommodate the BBC for this popular show,” he said.
“We are keen to have the venue used for as many different events as possible - and those which suite as many different tastes as possible. This promises to have huge appeal.”
Cllr Mayzes said the Council wanted to attract all ages and interests to events and to encourage them to book the theatre for their own use.
“It is an excellent facility and we want the community to make the most of it,” he added.
The doors open for Flog It! from 9.30am until 4.30pm on September 2.
The programme - which goes out on BBC2 - regularly draws an audience of two million viewers.
Paul Martin said that the show had come up with some real finds in the past and he expected Clacton to carry on the trend.
“We have had a small cream jug which sold at auction for £1,300 and a ceramic bowl, bought for £4 at a car boot sale, which was sold for £1,500,” he said.
“A lady in Aberdeen sold a Shelley tea set for £3,400. So if you’re wondering how much that clutter in the loft might be worth, now is your chance to find out.
“You could end up on television - and with a tidy sum in your pocket.”
