Frinton: Flushed with success
From the archive, first published Tuesday <30th Oct 2007.>
BUILDERS were flushed with success as they marked topping out Frinton's new £500,000 eco-friendly loos.
A special ceremony and buffet lunch was put on for guests including Michael Talbot, Tendring Council's environmental services portfolio holder, and Frinton and Walton Town Council mayor Terry Allen at the new toilet block on the greensward at the bottom of Connaught Avenue.
The traditional builders' topping out ceremony marked the end of major construction on the Edwardian-looking loos, which are set to replace the present public toilets which have stood at the site for more than 70 years.
Plumbing and work inside the building are still set to take place and the loos are expected to open in a couple of months.
Mr Talbot said: "This is a very smart looking building and it has been designed to look attractive.
"It will be an eco-friendly toilet, using rain water collected from the roof and stored in underground tanks to flush the toilets and some electricity will come from solar panels on the roof."
Mr Talbot said the toilets will be the first charging toilets with attendants in the district, and that this will help to prevent vandalism.
