Some of town centers rented accomodation is quite awful.

Does anyone have any experiance of them ?

Do the owners of hotel or guest houses want to see hundreds of new top class or even new budget class accomodation being built in and around our Town center,
or will it kill of the trade in the back streets altogether leaving owners fighting to survive this massive downturn in fortunes.

Some time ago we read of a group of hoteliers campaigning to create a more upmarket look on business,
does anyone know if it worked  Question

I think most of the good B&B's and small hotels were turned into Retirement homes long ago Ivan.
Unfortunately, it is true that Clacton as a holiday resort proper died when Butlins went . After all , what would you do if you had a young family and you came to Clacton for a week and it rained all the time.Until there is more for young families and first class accomodation to stay in , Clacton will continue to be regarded as a shabby ,old fashioned seaside town that has sadly fallen into a decline.
I remember all the lovely hotels ,guest houses and B&b's in the 60's and if I compare the diffrence to what's on offer today ,I wonder if they(the holidaymaker) would consider returning again.

If I had to choose between stopping in the proposed Hotel in Jackson Road (boxy but clean and new and shiney) and one of the less salubrious 'hotels' that are currently on offer ,I think I would prefer the box.
Also, the fact that most of the prime locations along the seafront are now either Residential Homes or retirement complexes has hindered the growth of the holiday industry.Great Yarmouth is so different from Clacton and I think that may be because all the tourist areas are on the seafront with good parking ,entertainment and hotels.
Mind you Ivan ,it wasn't all as rosy as remembered. My Grandad used to live in a rented house in Clacton before the war and every summer he would move the family(10 children) into a huge shed in the garden and hire out the house to holiday makers and I know he was not alone in doing this.

Oh how i laughed at you last paragraph young Lin.lol. Laughing

As a family, we used to holiday in clacton in an ex army tent, staying at various camp sites, but one i remember most was valley farm.
still got somewhere a picture of me and my kid brother sitting on my dads family transport of ex-army Indian motor cycle and huge side car.
I was about 8 my brother must have been about 4 years of age.

Then sitting on the beach just up from our now well used beach front diner, hiding under deck chair sun hut, as i burnt badly each summer...

And as you say, the whirlying of the amusements in Butlins. Shocked

We must have visited my now home town, but dont remember that, only as young men driving here in our cars, then sleeping in them after having a beer or two.
somewhere along the way, my best mates sister ended up my wife.

I hate my brother in law... Evil or Very Mad .............ha..ha..ha.......(not really, he`s a good mate) Wink

Getting back to my post,
yes i agree, as a holiday destination, we do have some terrible hotel / B&B places to rent.
We must not forget the fact that the bedsit kingdom of our Town HAS reduced the appeal of visitor attraction,
as it is in the now fabled twin with the countries worst third areas of deprivation,
that being the reason why so much of Jaywicks regeneration money was diverted into Pier Ward.

The now B I G question you must ask not only yourself, but visitors, do you, or have you,
seen any improvements in the last 2 years of nearly £2 million quids of regeneration money being spent.
Has it added value,
has it improved visitor attraction,
have we got well rid of the down and out B&B communities that condem our Town Center....

Well... Question ......................from what i see as i drive through,

NO... Arrow .

So my heading,
Town Center has some terrible guest houses and Hotels.

Anyone else want 2 penny worth to say on it....... Idea ...
