See on tonights news that under the guise of anti terrorist measure, the government has now brought in the following legislation as from today.
The Data Retention Regulations stipulate that communications providers must keep data such as telephone number, registered user, number dialled and duration of call for the period of a year. The geographical location of the phone at the time of the call must also be retained, as must the telephone numbers used in forwarded calls. The data must be stored and transmitted without undue delay in response to requests.
This information will be available to approx. 600 public bodies and it is believed that e-mail VoIP, fax and internet access will be monitored by 2009.

Anyone interested in blackmail can go and get a position that confers sight of this information. It is a fact that bad people take up positions with children for this very reason, why not ID and communications.
