Just in case anyone is interested, NPower have, today, lodged the plans for the 5 Wind Turbines they want to build off Little Clacton Road near Bockings Elm.

These 5 turbines will be almost the tallest in the country at over 400 foot and the nearest to a densly populated area anywhere in the UK, with mass housing within .5 of a kilometer.

So, the question is, will our Council Tax go up to take into account the nice view that so many people will have if these go up Very Happy

pepsi, have the councillors expressed a view as to whether council tax should rise or fall after this build?
If fall is anticipated will they rise when these monsters are taken down at the end of their live span or visa versa?

Saw this titbit in Lloyds List today.

HRH the Prince of Orange officially inaugurates the first Dutch wind farm in the North Sea.

Together with 14 schoolchildren from Egmond aan Zee, the Dutch Crown Prince, above, blew into a special tube and the turbines started to turn. The Egmond aan Zee offshore wind farm was constructed by Dutch energy firm Nuon and Shell in an initiative of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs. Though only just officially launched, the wind farm has been operational since the start of this year. With the stormy weather of the first three months of 2007, more than 111m kWh of electricity have been produced, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of more than 33,000 households.

As you all can see on a fine day off the coast of Jaywick, we have Herne Bays 30 odd wind turbines glinting in the sun as they do their job...
At night, the red warning lights seem to float above the water line all by themselves, but in reality just do their job...........

I think that they're a fantastic idea. We need to start using different energy sources to try clean up our world a bit. Being honest, whenever I went to the canaries and saw them I thoguht they looked magnificent. I know most think they aren't a prettysite but to me it's a reminder of what we can achieve...

DONG Energy and Siemens Wind Power have signed a contract for the delivery of 30 wind turbines for Gunfleet Sands in England.

The 30 wind turbines, which will be erected seven kilometers from England’s east coast at the mouth of the Thames, are Siemens 3.6MW wind turbines. With these new 30 wind turbines, the total capacity of the offshore wind farm will be 108MW. Construction is expected to start at the beginning of 2009 and the farm to be fully operational by the end of 2009.

Per Holmgård, Senior Vice President in DONG Energy Renewables, says about the contract:

“With the signing of the final contract, we have reached a significant milestone. This really gets the project going”.

Gunfleet Sands is DONG Energy’s third English offshore project after Barrow, which is already in operation, and Burbo Banks which is expected to be completed during 2007.

The investment costs for constructing the offshore wind farm, including the 30 Siemens wind turbines, are approx GBP 200 million.

As an update on our wind farms of our shores in tendring..
gunfleet sands phases 1 and 2 are going ahead.
london array, the worlds single biggest wind farm is going ahead.
and so is kentish flats, or so i belive, going ahead....

now thats a lot of wind turbines going ahead.......(you count them)....lol..

Interstingly enough i found this about a small wind farm that has a dubious history.......
