I have just read with interest in Essex Matters that Essex County Council has £2.5 million for young people aged 13-19 or upto 25 for disabled to pay for whatever facilities they choose.

What will be set up in Clacton, Harwich or Frinton? Lets use the money on something useful before it's to late. Funds are only available until March 2008.

It's a week now since Sara posted her question. What are the proposals for spending the money on facilities for the 13-19 year-olds?
Is there somebidy out there working on it?

It would be interesting to know how it is allocated, by population, need etc?

Was the notice on the web?

Is there a facility from this site to send a communal email to TDC, for instance?

Would Stephan TDYC be able to shed some light on the process required to get allocation?

I got the information from the Essex Matters Magazine which i receive free through my door, however i have found this site for you to look at http://www.essexcc.gov.uk/vip8/ec...site/dis/cha.jsp?channelOid=72425
It says
Quote:
In order to get the cash the ideas must come from, be submitted by and benefit young people. There are two ways young people can get involved: either by becoming involved in a project and applying for funding, or by sitting on the YouthBank panel which is responsible for deciding who gets the money.

I have just found the YouthBank website http://www.youthbank.org.uk/, i see with interest though that Essex doesn't seem to have one! the nearest is Norfolk.
I've also found this http://www.go-east.gov.uk/goeast/463184/463559/463591/ about the Youth Capital Fund

Sara,
I have followed one of your links and I must say there is a lot to read. One paragraph that needs investigation is

"Local Authorities have been consulting and planning with young people on how to enable these funds to be put into the hands of young people. Youth workers have been seeking out methods for groups and individual young people who would not traditionally have accessed Government funding, to be central to the planning of these initiatives."

This was taken from this site linked below;

http://www.go-east.gov.uk/goeast/463184/463559/463591/

It would seem from initial scrutiny that the award would be linked to education in some way but having plowed through an awful lot of the Youth Matters Green Paper PDF 100 pages am left asking, how are the target audience going to cope with the hoop jumping required to attract funds.

Your quote,
"In order to get the cash the ideas must come from, be submitted by and benefit young people"

Is going to be the challenge.
Could members of TDYC (I hope that's correct) look at this proposal and report back to this post?

If you believe it to be linked to education then it would be a great way of the local schools to come up with a project or projects to put forward. This would therefore not only help the local people but also the children in being able to expand their skills. Is there not a way that maybe Douglas could get something going on this or if i am quoting right the Youth Council to which i really don't no anything about, so sorry if i have quoted the wrong people.

Thank you very much for all your responses, sorry it has taken me a while to post a reply....as i do normally look at the site every other day but sometimes i just like to delay my posts to give people chance to respond!

The Youth Opportunity Fund (YOF) and the Youth Capital Fund (YCF) are two new pots of money available to young people. It sounds all very positive however this money will be available to young people through a grant application process which will then be assessed at county level which defeats the point of young people locally deciding where the money should go....so in fact TENDRING could get none of the money. The Head of the Youth Service at County Hall, told me in person that each local Youth Council would get a share of the money, which would haven give a local accountability edge allowing young people to be responsible citizens!

Once again the young people in TENDRING have no say where the money goes, The Youth Council do plan to fight this issue so we can have money at grassroots to spend on projects which we know will benefit local youngsters!

I WILL PERSONALLY KEEP YOU UPDATED,

PLEASE FEEL VERY FREE TO RESPOND WITH IDEAS?

BEST WISHES,

STEPHEN MAYZES
LEADER OF TENDRING DISTRICT YOUTH COUNCIL
