* just been to read the plaque on our sea wall, it was erected from 1960 onwards, so *1955* might be a bit optomistic*
On a nice warm sunny day, go and look at our mega millionpound beach now.
the good news is not many steps to walk down untill beach sand level is reached, the down side is the road drainage holes are completely covered with sand, the holes blocked up,
so surface drainage of excess water is now not achieved rendering the main Brooklands road a nightmare for its users, being on foot or driven along its length.
So,
the question ?
was *1955* better for jaywick,
or worse.
We are assured we have no longer a threat from sea inundation from a
1 in 100 year to a 1 in 200 year threat.
Brillient i hear you say, but,
just wait a moment or two.
If the sea is now no threat, what about the standing water on Brooklands after a rainstorm.
My goodness, we get soaked from passing traffic,
even AFTER £10 MILLION POUNDS being spent....why you ask is that !
Because no one has unblocked
ALL
the road drainage holes from the *1955* picture in the link above..
Modernisation.............such a difficault word to understand in our modern new world of hi tech knowledge with computor modeling that forecasts or predicts what or IF it will happen in our futures.
But in *1955* NO ONE predicted how stupid the powers to be would be in 2009,
in letting the simple basic road drainage holes block up and then back fill the beach side of the wall with such fine sand that blocks and does its best to stop a *1955* hole, drain 2009 road water away..
M O D E R N I S A T I O N.....lol
In the best possable way of course...
Neil Armstrong celebrated and once said something along the lines of:-
one giant step for man,
a huge leap for all mankind,
Brooklanders have celebrated for *nearly 50* years in its sea wall.......
but not if you drive or walk along Brooklands,
after its been raining it `aint mate..
