When four people get in on the act to unveil a poster telling tourists where to visit (is this an acheivement?) and without funding they will not do this, one can only ask where is the spirit of vocation.

Gordon Brown, bless him, is extolling the masses to do voluntary work, he has an uphill struggle if this and his kinds example is anything to go by.

Or am I being cynical?

very good points of yours,
any underpriviliged community needs its volunteers good work to make things better for the majority.

As in your comment above, yes, why does it take four now unfunded people to pull a bit of string.

On last sunday, a large team of unpaid volounteers,
took a year of planning, put on a very good summer fayre in Brooklands.

If local communities resist, or dont bother in producing good community events,
what message does that give out to outside funding agencies.
