Don't want to be a killjoy but should a bar be provided in a lorry park? I'm assuming its an alcoholic bar? |

amenity you are quite right to point this very fact out, as i was a bit "worried" about it my self, BUT,
as the transport hauledge industry is wide reaching, its journies far, its drivers times ruling dictates lengthy stop overs during some long haul routes, with these lenthy enforced stop overs, its the driver "day" off to do as he pleases. Any driver can go into a pub and drink to his hearts content, but only the foolish will drive afterwards. Long distance drivers have the right to do as they please on their days off, so if they are on a stop on their tachograph for a long overnight stay, they can be accomadated in comfort just like anyone who drives a car who stops over in a Hotel also, with a licensed bar too. On my travel to Norfolk last week, we stopped at the Orwell on my sons recomendation, we had just tea to drink, but we sat in leather settees in the bar while we watched a HUGE screen showing SKY news.. The tea was served by a waitress with much service with a smile... Not only was it not too much trouble, we were thanked on the way out for stopping there.............. ***"greasy spoon cafes / burger bars/ little chefs and the like take note"*** |

I see your points .I am still surprised when I see alcohol sold in garages too.
Still I expect the 'Nanny State ' will soon poke it's little nose in. I think that sometimes we should be given a chance to act responsibly and think for ourselves where alcohol is concerned. By the way ...I am a tea totaller ,not through any righteous reason ,I just don't like the taste of it !!. |

Its about time we were like our europian "cousins" in being able to go into any bar or resturant and have a coffee or tea or hot chocolate without the worry of others looking at what your drinking.
You can have just a good a time in a public Bar without drinking alcohol as well (so i`m told) I personally dont really like bars, but am begining to get used to them now the dreaded weed has been bannished outside. It all stemmed from my mad mini cab days in Romford.... Our scoot club HQ was the venue for my suprise 60th birthday party, and i had to drink 2 small glasses of house lager, it goes down ok, but does not mix with other medication.........the next day tells me that......lol... |

I agree about the responsibility, but such a large proportion of road accidents are linked to drink and drugs, both legal and non legal, that to provide a revenue earner at the expense of some innocent on the road seems like tempting providence to me.
I gave up the demon many years ago so perhaps I am biased. |
