Rolls Royce to axe over 2,300 jobs

Rolls Royce AREOSPACE divisions over the world are to cut over 2,000 jobs...... .....so what you say.....

http://money.aol.co.uk/rolls-royc...p-to/article/20080111024109990001

I`ve been there - done that, and feel sorry for them too.

The good news is it made me retire to one of the friendly`ist communities i know........

Did you only think Rolls Royce only made motor cars...think again....

i bet that made you think.......lol...

I've always thought it strange that when they lose a few orders they get rid of skilled workers, why don't they reorganise their sales staff, get them running, kick a*se.
ivan burit

Amenity, when we were running full tilt on production, the sales staff or other members of staff came and visited to give us pep talks to get the orders out just in  time..(J. I. T.) manufactoring methods.
It was always push - push, - push.....faster, quicker, cheaper......but still maintaining 100% accuracy........

When the orders fell, work slowed down, when it got worse, the skilled workers got "let go"
The "let go" workers eventially got into jobs they felt comfortable doing, so when the push-push push bods wanted more- more- more, there was less-less-less fully skilled workers available to do the faster-faster-faster bits in the workplace...

Iam a classic example of this ideoligy of the "felt more comfortable" doing something else.....I retired from the rat race, and boy am i glad i done so..

But getting back to kick ar*e, so many of us left, thats why so much more of R/Royces stuff is now manufactored abroad, so the sales staff have to now have multi-ligual backsides to enable them to be kicked up the backside in different languages..

Bad management is always prejudiced against the blue collar guys, I wonder why are they frightened of them, or their knowledge, perhaps?

Having experienced white collar and blue collar jobs  a number of years in sales and a bit in management too am inclined to fall back on my old adage.   "A fish rots from the head".
ivan burit

Your adage is very true in my case.
As i had lived very close to my employment, i oftain drove passed for various reason.
On the weekends, the friday to sunday shift members numbered only a handfull, but on a few saturday`s the car park was full of wealthy ownered vehicles all meeting in the boardroom..
I now belive the "mysterious" meetings that took place in the Co`s boardroom 2 or more years before my "thankyou and goodbye letter" were the only planning that had positive effect in the Co`s history..
The waffle that followed this meeting of the mysterons enabled certain Co. members to "diversify" remaining funds away from public gaze.
It took time for the penny to drop, but board members and top management behaved "different" when it came to Co. money that had been held in tight purse conditions.

The bottom line is..it happened..get over it.....move on.......

If it was myself in that position would i have done the same.....i dont know....

A sad day to read of the loss of our heritage name

The "rot from the head" looks like its began...............

Its a sad event when any great british manufactoring plant shuts down, even worse when it goes abroad losing its british workforce to foriegn shores....

One of the UK`s best known names world wide, is slipping away......

Ok, the name will remain, SOME UK plant WILL remain, but the money costing manufactoring will be gone...............

Rolls Royce i was once proud of you, i spent a lot of my life indirectly working for you, but today, if you shut yet another UK plant, you might as well be making boxes of cornflakes..

Yesterday, i was parting with some of my money in TDC`s office for council tax collection, and me being me was joking around as per, and it got round to when i was on "vacation" (i do love that american word for holiday, but only when in USA) in Florida a few years ago.
We stayed in the purpose built tourist trap of International Drive, but it was nice, central, and had everything you could ever need there.
in the massive Hotels resturant they had a good deal going for early evening dinner.
if you was 50 years old or over, you got just what you wanted the same as all others, but only paid 50% of the price for it....
They were pleased for you to be 50 and over, pleased that you had got that far, pleased that you had worked for 35 or more years to get that far, pleased that your contributions to your country had recieved the income tax and national insurance or whatever it was in your country was....
The reasoning was, if you never worked, you would never be in America on holiday.

Just how much would resturants take off my bill in the UK when i told them, YIPPEE
I`m nearly 60, i can get my free bus pass soon................

Just how many of T D C`s councillors are grumbling about the cost of not just mine, but hopefully 1,000`s of other proud over 60`s in April when we get our free bus passes.....

OK, i think i`ll go and try MacDonalds, order a big mac maxed up, then only give them 50% of the order price.................ho--hum.......lol...
