See .....at least other councils can get it right.
Maldon and District council Splash Park .Strange how they got it right ,no intended fencing off of this one. In fact the children are encouraged to play in it.
Now ,had TDC sat down ,thought it through and not gone for what looks like a second hand fountain from e bay,we may have had this too.Funny though ,I am sure Maldon have seagulls too.

....... at least the dreaded stainless fencing has been halted, it would have resembled romford on market days when livestock was on offer...
nice pic of the splash pool young Lin.

I just think of all the wasted opportunities that TDC never thought through.
The tourism department bangs on about visitor numbers yet the council really have let so may good ideas fall from their grasping hands.
Apart from the Pier ,beach and Amusements ,what is there to do ?. Not anywhere near enough to fill a week in Clacton if it rains .
I have had relatives down for the past week(age range 3-68 ) and ,after a gloomy ,grey day on the beach there is not much else for them to do.They opted to go out of town and spend money in places like Colchester ,Ipswich and other Suffolk attractions.
As you are no doubt aware ,I do visit a couple or three seaside towns every year .I am afraid Clacton is falling way behind on whats on offer elsewhere.
I know we are blessed with super beaches and shoreline but is this going to be enough to keep up with other towns .If a family come for the day ,they are generally 'nose-baggers' that just use the beach and don't contribute much to the local economy.
time for TDC to wake up and smell the coffee .A blue flag beach is splendid ,but is it enough???.

All very true young Lin.
last night was scoot club night in the Diner by the lifeboat slipway.
we stood /sat outside and felt that the new stainless fencing all along that part of the beach must look like we are deliberately trying to keep tourist OFF our beaches.
Following protests by Cllr Grithiffs sometime ago, a start was made to change the fences into gateway type entrances every so often, but as that required new steps leading to the beach, some were started, but by the Diner, has just been left for many weeks unfinished....DOHHHH.....
The only asset we have, and a metal barrier stops us gaining entrance to it...dumb or what..
A few weeks ago, i was at a meeting with high ranking officers from ECC where it was stated we need a tourist attraction here in Jaywick.
Ok i thought ?
Did they not know about our biggest attraction for miles, our 200 year old tower and arts hub for the whole area...DOHHHH
Its painted white,
it stands 3 full stories high,
and has stood defiant for 2 hundred years..
Jaywick Martello Tower.
Lin your right of course,
Clacton has been the victim of its own success,
when ex councillors failed to help the single biggest employer in the area in Butlins, the rot set in from there.
Frinton was on a crest of a wave for years too,
but it seems its residents have turned on the Taj`s once proud "look at me - look at me"
so when all the quality shops shut up and went along with the outdated wooden gates, so did its hopes, unless its new councillors can see sence and halt the last few years of rot.
Just dont ask me about our new roads to go with our new beach Lin...ha..ha..ha..

Have you got your copy of Tendring Matters mine dropped through today.
Headlines Lin just reread your post of the Fri Jun 12, 2009 12:22 pm;
"Help us to boost tourism......"
Then follows a list and questionnaire....
Why have they waited to see the sense in tourism?
Mr Stewart representing TDC when questioned about this at the Bathside Bay (2004) inquiry brushed aside tourisms relative importance, oh well let bygones be bygones.
Just deposited my long list of suggestions on the web site Amenity.
That should give them something to think about as there are quite a few suggestions.
