Essex County Council plans to change the way it provides adult social care and introduce self-directed support and personal budgets for all new users from the second half of 2008.
Self-directed support is a new way to provide social care. Instead of a package of support, people who quality will receive a personal budget. People can decide how they want to spend the money to meet their social care needs and improve their quality of life. This includes asking the council or another organisation to hold their money and arrange services for them.
