So there has been a lot in the locals lately about this and how annoyed labour is that it failed to get through. I have read some of their stuff and quite frankly what they are saying is just utter rubbish. The most recent has to be Mcleods comments in the postbag about him not knowing that the CRP cllrs werent happy with the bowls club being on there and that they would have to say no cos of it. Well I know for a fact he knew as one of the cllrs told him. Also if anyone is interested they can contact Cllr Brown and he will let them see the emails he has from David Lines where they discuss the fact that they could not support the wish list if it went through as one, but if he split it up they would support the things they did not have a problem with, which was everything bar the bowls club.
I do find it amazing that the alliance would think that its acceptable to basically give away £91,000 of tax payers money for a club (failing business) that has 200 (or less members). Perhaps if we all got together with our friends we could ask for a load of money too.
Then there is the 10p for the first hr parking. Sounds wonderful in theory. Though its funny I dont recall reading that this would be for a 3 month trial period only, across the whole of Tendring. Now considering that they plan to make the car park at the tip a paying one now do we really think that the money grabbers at TDC would really allow this to continue for any longer than the 3 months. Once again Cllr Mcleod is in the paper making comments about the shop keepers in town (Dovercourt) being really angry that this has not gone ahead. I would like to know what shopkeepers exactly he has spoken to as I can produce 6 shopkeeprs/owners who he has not spoken to about this at all. These shopkeepers are in fact angry, but not at the fact the 10p parking didnt go ahead but that Mcleod is claiming to speak for them without ever actually talking to them in the first place.
I must actually bring up Mcleods comments about the awful flats that they want to build by Morrisons....he refers to them as being good and called them Titanic (cant be bothered to find his actual quote). Do you think we ought to club together and buy him the film, just so he knows what happens at the end of the film. If you are gonna suggest naming a block of flats after a ship at least try and make it a ship that wasnt one of the biggest maritime disasters ever.

I think the reason this wish list failed was because the CRP voted against it and also one of the Alliance councillors did not attend, this meant that the Alliance did not have enough support to get this through.
Mind you, if the CRP are going to be truly independant then this could happen again, I still think the whole point of the Alliance closeting themselves away in Sudbury that weekend was so that Tendring First could try and come to some agreement to maintain their Alliance support, after all the Wish List made a very sudden appearance after that little bonding session.
If the CRP stay independant and any member of the Alliance fails to attend a council meeting then we could have some fun in the future, TDC will need their own Whip |

The CRP's will stay independant because that is what they truly are. Proof of that is that 2 of their Cllr's actually voted for the wishlist as it benefited their wards. Also 1 CRP cllr wasn't at the meeting due to ill health.
Before the actual vote great pressure was asserted onto members of the CRP to as so quiantly put 'get your people in line'. The fact that they have been told many times that the cllrs would vote the way they thought best for their wards seemed to go straight over the heads of some. |

I seem to remember that with the previous TDC administration, there was often talk about great pressure being put on individuals to follow the administration line.
Terry Allen may not be in the TDC but David Lines is still his man and you really do have to wonder at the amount of money that seems to be heading in the direction of Frinton lately for various projects. |

Yup thats true Cllr Brown has apologised for the things he said that were out of order. Though I very much doubt we have heard the last from him
I should add that the reason he has apologised is not because of anything he said at a council meeting. It was to do with a letter in the paper the other week. |

So my friend went to a meeting last friday about this whole alliance/labour wishlist. There to answer questions was David Lines himself. She was impressed with what he had to say. Said the talked a lot of sense. Made some very compeling arguements. She was very impressed with his stance on Jaywick and his desire to see it regenerated.
Anyway she had the chance to ask him a question about the conduct of certain members of the alliance and letters that had appeared in the Harwich and Manningtree Standard from a certain member in particular. During the meeting he had confirmed (without being asked) that something this member had said was untrue. So when she questioned him he confirmed that this member of the alliance had got it wrong and agreed that as a result of this certain people were being called liars when in fact the opposite was true. He agreed to make a statement in the paper to confirm this. My friend even caught him on the way out to confirm that he would do this. What a thoroughly nice man she thought. He had talked about wanting all the members of TDC, alliance and non alliance, to work together. To bring in a new form of politics. This was right up until that night he called a councillor that had been there and said he was unable to put the statement in the paper because it put him in a difficult position. Obviously caring little that members of the alliance that he leads had put other people in a difficult position.
Seems to me that this whole alliance that claims to be different is no different to what we have had in the past. Mr Lines needs to realise that words alone are not enough. As they say actions speak louder than words and Mr Lines your actions so far show you to be little more than a coward.
Another form of politics, I dont think so. You may describe yourself as a conservative with a little c rather than the big C it used to be, but you act like one from the party with a big C. |

McCleod is a HTC and TDC cllr. And dare I say it, for comments that have you scratching your head in wonder at the sheer stupidity he may well rival your two fave cllrs.
He is the one who suggested that a block of flats that is going to be built be named Titanic. Now as the plan is quite disliked in Harwich and Dovercourt you'd probably think that its because he thought it was a bad idea for them to be built etc. But no he is all for it (despite people in his ward hating it). We are not sure if he knows what happened to the Titanic cos if he did surely he'd realise that the name Titanic is not associated with something that was a success. |

EG,
Seem to remember a certain Tony Blair who impressed a heck of a lot of people.
He seemed to talk a lot of sense and made a lot of compelling arguments and a lot of people voted for him so he became quite powerful.
He then decided to make a stance on going to war, ended up never admitting that he may have been wrong and left an awful lot of broken promises in his wake.
Beware of smooth talkers with forked tongues, I have attended a few council meetings and have heard the nastier side of Mr Lines.
Give me someone who calls a spade by it's proper name any day and I never trust anyone who comes out with the out-reaching, synergy embracing, blue sky thinking kind of crap. |

Dear Elaine,
It has been brought to my attention that during a public meeting of the town council on January 9 various claims were made regarding the accuracy of items of items which had appeared in the Standard.
We enjoy a good relationship with the council and its members and we would like to remind them that we do follow the guidelines laid down by the Press Complaints Commission and will immediately do our utmost to correct any errors if they are brought to our attention.
Similarly, as you will be aware, we also reserve the right to defend ourselves against slanderous comments made against reporters or to take action to protect our reputation when it is brought into public disrepute.
However, as is usually the case, good informal, and formal, lines of communication are the key to prevent such misunderstandings and we look forward to these continuing.
Yours sincerely

It may be some years before we know the extent of Bliars duplicity and wickedness, but guilty he certainly is of crime judged by most standards. Little wonder people like Lines are attracted to follow.
