As from 1st April

Thursday 27 December 2007 10:51
Department for Transport (East)

Make it your new year resolution to get out and about with your bus pass in 2008

Older and disabled people are being urged to make the most of their free national bus pass when they plan their New Year's resolutions this year.

From 1st April people living in England who are aged 60 or over, or eligible disabled people, will be entitled to free off peak local bus travel anywhere in England. They will be able to use their new bus passes when visiting family and friends or taking a much needed weekend country or seaside break and also to travel to a range of events and activities outside their local area.

just as a matter of interest:
A great number of my friends scattered throughout the UK have already been asked by their local council to send in up-to-date photos etc for these new passes.
Ours all expire at the end of March but TDC haven't done anything yet about asking for renewal details etc.
Is it going to be a rush at the last minute?

Very good point Mojo.
I think we will have to email / phone the relevant department on this, give `em a bit of a push.

Its not as if its a TDC thing, but central Gov thing, and so they should be up to speed on it....

I have contacted TDC today re the new nationwide bus passes.

If we already have a bus pass then there is no need to do anything. The new ones will be sent to us in the second half of March. They are using the photos that are already on file and if these aren't good enough to be electronically transferred to the new pass then TDC will contct us.

For those people who do not have a bus pass - then they must apply as normal.

Subject: retirement plan for the future

What Do Retired People Do All Day?

Working people frequently ask retired people what they do to make their

days interesting.

Well, for example, the other day my wife and I went into town and went into

a shop. We were only in there for about 5 minutes. When we came out, there

was a cop writing out a parking ticket. We went up to him and said, 'Come

on man, how about giving a senior citizen a break?' He ignored us and

continued writing the ticket. I called him a Nazi turd. He glared at me and

started writing another ticket for having worn tyres.

So my wife called him a shithead. He finished the second ticket and put it

on the windshield with the first. Then he started writing a third ticket.

This went on for about 20 minutes. The more we abused him, the more tickets

he wrote.

Personally, we didn't care. We came into town by bus.

We try to have a little fun each day now that we're retired. It's important

at our age.

The local Dovercourt Post Office has on it's counter advertising material for the Hedingham omnibus company.

Titbits of journeys are on offer with reductions for the AOP's.

But the companies terms and conditions are writ large and copied below.

These terms are, as written, onerouse and that may not be the intention if so we OAP's would feel much better if this is sorted out.

"The company reserves the right to cancel your day trip. One of the reasons for cancellation maybe that the minimum number of persons required for each day trip to take place has not been reached. In the event of cancellation for this reason then the company will notify you no less than 3 days prior to departure. All seats are allocated on a first come first served basis. In order to obtain your preferred seats we advise that you make your booking as early as possible. (Please remember that we only have 4 front seats!) The company reserves the rights to alter seat numbers, but will only do so if absolutely necessary and if all possible you will be notified of any changes as soon as possible. Please not that the company can only offer a refund in extreme circumstances and at our discretion. A transfer to another trip may be possible but will carry a handling charge.
EXCURSION PROGRAMME OPERATED BY HEDINGHAM OMNIBUSES, 01255 474849."

amenity it looks like someone at Hedingham busses fell over on a dictionary...lol.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
anyway,
"This went on for about 20 minutes. The more we abused him, the more tickets
he wrote. "

Today, me and the dearest went for a look in our Town centre, and as our Gazette carried a story about the bad road signage in the lead into Pier Avenue, the foolhardy motorist who thought the existing signs were meant for someone else, soon found out that these exiting signs do really mean..

NO ENTRY BETWEEN 10AM until 4PM...

The 2 polite policeman just round the corner could not write out tickets fast enough.

If it was me getting a ticket, no doubt i would be me being a bit miffed....

but, if i was to drive round the corner and not seen these signs, it would be miffed too......lol...
