In our local newspaper, the Gazette, a few letters have been printed about a new Parish Council for Jaywick.
my reply to todays is this.

Further to Mrs Murphy`s article in thursdays post bag regarding a new parrish council.
Her misguided statements about the what Jaywick wants.
Her remarks about the head of regeneration suggesting what Jaywickians want,
and, premises will be needed, paid clerks and computers.

1, Ok, only those wearing blinkers will fail to see much is needed to be done in Brooklands, Grasslands and some of the Village.

2. We have in Brooklands, possibly the finest community / management meeting room, not only does it have private rooms, computer suites, intercom access, disabled access and what is the best view either on its balcony or inside, of Essex`s finest beaches and over the sea to Kent.
Nowhere else in Tendring has this fantastic opportunity to actually hold a Parish Council meeting that will and should be in the very heart of the soon to be taking place county wide regeneration programme.
Nowhere else in Golf Green ward has so much to lose as Brooklands and Grasslands, its only fitting that a Parish council be formed and run from its epicentre, its own community centre, the very same one that had hundreds of thousands of pounds recently spent on it, and most likely the only thing to remain in the long term of its community.
So like those good intensioned residents from outside of our most "at risk" community, please think before you deplore actions for the real Jaywicks future..

I am known for not wasting my time on ideas that dont or wont work.
I am a see - do bloke, if it wants fixing then i`ll do it,
if it`s not broken, then i`ll leave well alone..

Brooklands will be overtaken by "outside forces" it we dont mend our ideas on just how to fix it.
We definately do NOT want another fiasco like the last one 2 or more years ago when it almost got through.
"outside forces" have also learned from that last fiasco and also are coming well prepaired to challange just what Jaywickians really want or need, in "their" eyes.

We need to wake up, stand up and look up to OUR future..

Brooklands and Grasslands future, now, not tomorrow...

Campaign to restore area with its own council
From the archive, first published Monday 3rd Mar 2008.

CAMPAIGNERS have organised a public meeting to press ahead with plans for a new parish council in Westcliff.

The Residents' Association of Westborough wants a new council to restore pride in the ward and give people a bigger say in where cash is spent.

The meeting will take place on Friday, March 14, at 7.30pm at Hildaville Church hall, on the corner of Hildaville Drive and Westborough Road, Westcliff.

Association spokesman Alan Abbott said: "We have established the desire to consider the possibility of a parish council to achieve the improvements Southend Council is unable to provide.

"This once pleasant ward has for some time now been allowed to deteriorate and the rot needs to be stopped by carrying out environmental improvements.

"Improved street lighting, pavement safety, clearance of alleys dumped with rubbish, putting gates across cleared alleys and more shrubs and trees would all help the area.

"The original local transport plan for Westborough included road calming for the whole ward, but this was discontinued after two years, creating increased problems for some roads.

"In addition, the £10,000 minor award grant to make improvements in each ward in the town was also discontinued."

Indepenedent Westborough councillor Martin Terry said: "The ward needs resources to achieve the improvements needed.

"A parish council may be the low-cost way to provide these resources and improvements."
