I saw that this morning as well Amenity.Apparently they are having awful trouble with the stuff at the site of the new Olympic Village.
Japanese knot weed is notoriously difficult to eradicate ,and ,thankfully I have not got any .
The scientist chappie said they have carried out all the tests they can on the insect that eradicates it ,and what with all the other insects that have gradually been invading our wetter ,warmer climes ,it will only be yet another in the great chain of things.
I suppose we should take the risk as this monster is a real threat to our wild life ,taking over from our natural inhabitants and possible ruining the food chain for the indigenous insects of our island.
While I am here on the environment bit ,I must take issue with that woman that complained to the local rag a couple of weeks ago about the drainage clearance at Jaywick. She moaned about the weeds that the contractor had dredged out of the river at Jaywick. She was unhappy that the contractor had left them on the side of the river bank and they looked a mess.
Does the woman not realise that this is the proper method of clearing ditches ect in accordance with the enviroment agenct. It was left there so that any wildlife /pondlife could return to the water thus replenishing what was removed.A bit like when you clean your pond out. What did she want them to do ???? chuck the lot in an incinerator ??? now thats what I call a useless article in the paper.
Sorry had to say something as the item put the contractor in a very bad light when all he was doing was the correct thing.
But knotweed ......if you havent got it ...be thankful.
