Supporters of a project to build a new visual arts centre in Essex are seeking a £1.5m grant.

The Firstsite:newsite gallery in the town, due to open at the end of 2009, could run about £7.5m over budget.

Colchester Borough Council, Essex County Council and Eastern Arts are each providing an extra £2m.

Strange really that funds can be diverted to such projects, that do not have general public support, and yet sea defences are neglected.

Of course this project is near the top of a hill.

Apparently Natural England (formerly English Nature) are offering a reward to anyone qualified to persuade us that we don't need sea defences where they are perseaved to be too expensive.

Coastal Geomorphologist

Salary range from £23,000 to a target rate of £29,100 with opportunity to rise to a Higher Performance ceiling of £32,100

Based Peterborough or Cheltenham • Ref: RCRE 1203

Natural England works for people, places and nature, to enhance biodiversity, landscapes and wildlife in rural, urban, coastal and marine areas; promoting access, recreation and public well-being and contributing to the way natural resources are managed so that they can be enjoyed now and in the future.
In this important role, you will be responsible for providing coastal geomorphology advice in order to conserve sites of importance, many of which will be along the east and south-east coasts of Britain.  Working within our Geology, Landscape and Soils team, based within our Evidence Team and working with our Policy Team, you will also help set sustainable coastal management policies and objectives for the wider coastline.
The work will include providing technical advice to internal and external stakeholders as well as writing and presenting papers, dealing with media enquiries and confidently handling often emotive issues directly with landowners and the public. You'll also provide integrated technical advice on the development proposals affecting coastal geology and geomorphology, such as coastal protection proposals and harbour projects.
With a background in, and understanding of coastal geomorphology, you’ll be able to give sound technical advice on coastal processes.  You’ll also need an appreciation of the issues linking geodiversity, coastal habitats and landscapes. Highly organised and an effective communicator, we will be impressed by your ability to apply geomorphological expertise and research and to link your background to our agenda, supporting sustainable management of the coast. You will help us grow our knowledge and enable us to work more effectively with partners.

Amenity, i read that as a team, within a team, within a team, within a team.
I also read such fine sounding words that the applicant can expect to use perhaps,
to use to confuse perhaps.

But i am puzzled by its description,
one thing i have not read is the words to explain how you grant the right for the sea to reclaim your country, your soil, your lands fought over and for,
for years and years.

How many young men and women died saving our soil, lands, freedom.

Yet i search the job application discription and find at least one word is missing.

Traitorious.

Amenity, we thankyou for bringing to our readers attention, the fact that subversive actions are afoot to give our lands away for nothing.

This is what Marinet solicitor said about this advert.

Solicitor Peter Scott writes:
"Whoever is appointed will have the responsibility to justify removing existing coastal defences and stopping people building new ones.

It is to stop Peter Boggis and everyone thinking on similar lines.

Currently Natural England are using Dr Lee who is an external consultant but who does not have a public profile for Natural England.

The successful candidate will be acting as a mouthpiece as well, and no doubt it is hoped that they will do better in putting over Natural England's agenda than the existing Eastern management are capable of doing"
