Clacton: Wind farm fears for new estate
From the archive, first published Tuesday 1st Apr 2008.

Fears have been raised that plans for 400 homes on the outskirts of Clacton could be under threat from the district's first onshore wind farm.

Bloor Homes is in talks with Tendring Council to build the estate on farmland bordering Little Clacton Road and St John's Road.

It would be less than 1km from a five-turbine wind farm which is planned at Earls Hall Farm.

Energy firm N-Power submitted the application a year ago but it is yet to be decided by Tendring Council.

Campaign group Staple (South Tendring Acting to Protect our Local Environment) and councillors are concerned about the proximity of the proposed developments.

Staple's latest newsletter said it considers the 400 homes in the blueprint, and 320 existing homes in the Cann Hall estate, are too close to the 125-metre tall turbines.

"The wind farm could jeopardise the lynchpin of Tendring's urban regeneration," it added.

Tendring Council confirmed it is in "very early stages" of discussions with Bloor Homes, of Bury St Edmunds. Bloor Homes said it had no comment to make.

N-Power's application will be decided by Tendring Council's development control committee later this year.

The council said it was still waiting for responses before it makes a decision.

Now many months down the line, how far has it gone as the wind farm is also in question.

Tongue in cheek, one is bound to ask are the homes not wanted now, as they, the developers, must have claimed before the 'crunch'.

Money!

Plenty of money for rich bankers but little for affordable homes?

Bank of Scotland employees are thanking government for taxpayers subsidy now bonus's are subsequently being handed out.

I suspect that the developers had done little in the way of assessing need just relied on assumption and statistics.

This sort of thing should be used as a precedent by councils in the future and developers should not be able to rely on straight sloped graphs for their certainty for what is going to happen in the future.

If some relationship between arable land, food supply, population density, energy costs, and sustainability values could be drawn into programs such as the Local Plan those that propose change for change sake might be forced to act wisely.

I have not touched carbon footprints and Global Warming 'cos we all love spending money on train journeys to the likes of London every day don't we.

This brings me to the question that must occur to all that read it was a developer that operates out of Bury St Edmund's that has gone into reverse, are we really saying there are no developers?  It might have a beneficial effect if people had to live in the communities they are providing homes for, some link of this kind could bring a little sanity to the 'Free Market'.

As an update on this story, elsewhere i have posted this, but its just an update on this thread really:-

The coastal renaissance board met for the 1st time on monday afternoon.

Among different ideas mooted,
upgrade the A133 from Colchester to Clacton.

plus **increase affordable housing in JAYWICK*

Other projects in JAYWICK and WALTON were mentioned
"after" the meeting!

It was said that Lord Hanningfield remarked:-

"we want to work with the people of JAYWICK to improve their facilities"

***"we are NOT looking to move people OUT of Jaywick,
but they could have "other" housing in the area***

"it will take some years to totaly resolve the problems we face,
but lets hope we can get things going through ***2010***"

*****planning permision HAS gone in for this threads new "affordable" homes***

BEAR - Bockings Elm Active Residents - campaigners claim the development won't even lead to a local jobs boost, with most construction firms coming from outside the area.

"If the worst comes to the worst and they decide to build, there won't be a single job for Clacton people," said Mr Mills.

"They'll leave behind a sink estate and we are going to suffer."

• Tuesday's meeting take place at the council's offices in Weeley at 7pm.

Should be a noisy meeting i would have had thought,

what with qotes of cars being burnt out!!!!!

Your probably right on the jobs front Ivan people will rush over on the cheap from the continent or down London way.

Jobs Jobs we still fall for it but look how the poor postmen are being treated, someone can smell a profit and who then gives a stuff about jobs.

Thats what jobs are for.

How will it all end?

Divide and rule, government is past master at setting one faction against another.

The governments bosses (the rich) play the same game on them, two parties indeed.

The most unfortunate thing about residents like the above Mr Mills,
is 100 years ago, no doubt we had simular residents saying the same things about their then country sides.

In major towns over the last 100 years, open lands have been built on.

As new estates need to be built, some people will loose their views of green fields,

it happens, its called progression.

As a young man with a newly aquired driving license, i remember driving round miles of empty concrete roads, with not much on either side of them, over in furthest essex.
These were on the outskirts of the new town being built.
It was`nt long before the builders arrived to build houses either side of the barren concrete roads.

They still build houses on someones green fields there,
just like they do in any Town anywhere.

I was in Harlow Amenity,
and worse, some of them hurriedly built new homes were later pulled down as being unfit for use,
with further new estates built inplace.

This also happened in Basildon, Laindon east to be precise, with concrete section boxlike terraced housing, no outside parking,
as for my sins, we lived there in the 1969/1970 for nearly 12  months----horrid place.....

New built homes have now a design brief that will encompase certain features, of road parking (for 1 car)
a covered entrance way/door.
it should contain a downstairs loo near the front door. easy access stairways plus many features easily accessable by disabled tennents/owners.
It should meet PPS25 flood risk specs plus others.

****
At an adjacent public house car park,
planning permission has been granted for a contractors plant base.

It has been built and inplace for months!

Ever since they drew up plans for Welwyn Garden City it has been common knowledge on just what it takes to build a nice new town.

But, will the elected turnips ask for such for their constituents, no fear?

Rabbit hutches for all (the poor that is).

Nothing changes.

well, the wind farm looks like its coming,
the locals who campaigned against the tubines have taken down the signs saying,
TOO CLOSE FOR TURBINES.

Not yet seen no new signs,
FAR TOO CLOSE FOR NEW ESTATE though.

New affordable housing estate riddle?

For those that travel the roads into and out of clacton, via St. Johns road, from, i.e. from the fire station round about, heading to say, St. Osyth,

cant help wondering just whats going on.

Sometimes 2 or 3 sets of roadworks, complete with traffic lights, causing delays and tail backs.
Its been going on for simply ages.
The contractors have been digging a nice new trench along the middle of the roadway, except for some places, then they go on the pavements,
(i suspect the cause for this is main drainage/sewer type  underground stuff)
as they detour round mini roundabouts.
So today, I look at its progress from the fire station end, along to just past the garden centre at Bockings Elm.
The new 18 approx inch wide new tarmac points into and enters a electical substation nearly opposite the proposed new affordable homes site, right next to the proposed 5 HUGE new wind turbines site........

On turning into Jaywick Lane, I came accross the same type of newly laid tarmac that looks as if its coming out of "Bishops Park" sorry, new Coastal Acadamy, heading for freedom until it turns into the small field adjacent to the entrance on a "well known" holiday & residential  park.
Funny thing is, planning permission has once already been applied for to build on this small field,
it once had a double cottage that was listed, but "had a fire"
It stood for some time before the bulldozers done there work!

Its a funny old world you know.....
